Glimpse
[this one actually IS true. its old tho. i think its about two or three years old]
i cracked open the door and slipped inside the auditorium just after you had gotten on stage. i could see your hair shine in the bright lights. i could barely see your eyes from where i was, but i knew they couldnt see me so far in the back, and in the shadow, invisble and dead to the world. Your eyes were searching, and I hoped they were searching for me. Your music danced around inside my head, and for a moment I was totally lost. I had disappeared to the physical world. I remember looking at you, and feeling a rush of happiness and then the dark emptiness of loss. I didnt know if i would ever get you back, or if you even wanted me back. But I lead myself on in the worst of ways, all the while knowing I would only end up hurt, and I couldnt stop. So I stood completely still in the back, frozen the carpet where I stood, until the silence freed me. I took one last look at you. I missed you, and hoped more than anything you would run down the stage and jump into my arms. BUt I never stuck around to find out. I cracked open the doors, glanced over my shoulder, and the last thing I saw was a strangly sad axpression on your face, like a kid who didn't get the present she was hoping for, only deeper, and I saw you scan the audience one last time before I slipped outside into the cold, cruel air of the rest of the world.
